During the July 13th FOTM I remember there was a an actual fire on the mountains behind!
Rainbows end down that highway where oceans breezes blow.
Wow...I thought I might have imagined that because I was at that show, too. Glad to know it really happened.
One of the best, and dustiest, venues ever to see a Dead show.
When the Dead played there, the stage was set on the North End. But when Jerry or The Other Ones (or Phish) played there the stage was midway through the East grandstand.

Drove up from Encinitas for the weekend. Saturday was mediocre but Sunday July 18, 1982, was the best show I've ever seen! I saw more than 40 Grateful Dead shows but this one was the best and I wasn't high on anything! Unfortunately no Soundboards exist according to Dick Latvala (1996). I'm almost positive it was this weekend: I was 17 years old, falling in love with a woman named Kelly, watching her as I danced to T. Jed and then prostrating myself in the dustI walked out at the end, before the encore (Brokedown?) and then a ton of people leaving the show headed straight for the water, along the estuary. Lots of naked Dead Heads in the ocean, and seals in the water with them!!! I wasn't hallucinating! It was so frickin' beautiful, with the sun setting and all...and the, viola, there's this Kelly girl who takes my hand as the sunset goes purple, burning....what a weekend.

The girl I was dating (Cindy Munson) took me to this show - I was not ver familiar with the Dead but she was a big fan who had already spun many records for me so I would get it but, it wasn't until the actual live experience that I did. I too remember the fires burning that weekend & the incredible camp-out experience. The many bands that played late into the night thru-out the campground, the guys who showed movies all weekend like Yellow Submarine, Reefer Madness & Airplane Glue I Love You - everyone was so friendly (even watched bikers stop the only fight I saw telling the opponents that they had come for a weekend of peace and did not want to see any violence). The Dead introduced me to incredible live music that day & I couldn't have asked for a more perfect first show (Terrapin sealed it for me). I kept going for another 5 years after that until Touch of Grey crowds scared me off after ''89.

I came out from Tucson and did the JGB run in 1992 and saw this venue. This is such a cozy spot right near the coast. I wish I would have been into the sceene prior to 88 so I could have caught these GD shows. Some good magic came from here (as Ive heard from the tapes I have from here)
