1st sober show...drove from queens nyc w/ friend from high school (late 60's)..though i'd get that 'goota go to any lengths to see the boys out of my system'.......

thanks to the guy I met inside! Mde my Birthday night! Funny how no one ate the cake tha my straight mother sent with me. ( Never did like cake myself...Stickly an Ice Cream kind of guy.) Anyone figure out I own aned ice cram sotre yet????????? Maybe later!

12 hour drive for a lackluster show. The 1st set highlights were the Half Step & the Cumberland. The 2nd set seem like the band was just in a hurry. The Black Peter was nice, & that's about all.
Little summer vacation got me to Pittsburgh then I found myself in Maine soon after. The bus came by. Thanks boys for the ride of my life.

Drove over after the hot & humid Buckeye Lake show, 6/25/88 (the link backward, above, takes you back to 1987!!). Snagged tickets outside the venue. This was memorable for the first performance of Gentlemen Start Your Engines, sung by Brent.
Had to miss Buckeye Lake (I was a groomsman in a friend's wedding and couldn't get him to change the date). Drove to Pittsburgh from Cincy after my friend's wedding reception and crashed at my father in law's. Met another friend from work when he tackled me in the middle of Half Step and we went rolling down the aisle.
Of the two, this was definitely the better show re: Buckeye Lake. It was a froggy voice night for Jerry, and, yeah, the second set was short, but it was sweet. The Playin' reprise is just perfect, and tied for the hottest Lovelight I saw ~ I mean, when Bobby stops the band with a "wait a minute" you know they're in a groove. Closest I ever saw to first-album-look Bob, too, this was right before he started ponytailing it so it was really long. Great setlist in the first half. Funny that at one point in the Cumberland jam, I distinctly thought I heard Jerry thinking he was still playing Big River ~ and whenever I hear the tape, I hear it again! That's what you get for playing those two country standards in a row....which I thought was an inspired bit of set-listing. And really dug Gentlemen, Start. Plus, a Brent verse in Rooster : ) Not top tier, but a sweet little show, I thought ~ especially after Buckeye, which we wrote off after the first set. Fun two-fer midwest road trip from Baltimore, though.

My wife and I sold the last of our braclets, got tickets and had a great time. Little Red Rooster was hot with the added lyrics.
