This was my first run at Alpine. 4 of us drove from Jersey & got there the night before not knowing that Dylan & Petty were there the night before. We found a descent camp site, then walked to the Venue to listen to Dylan. My girl & I just kept on walkin right through the front gate, not a soul tried to stop us, nor did anyone see us. We grabbed a spot on top of the hill & chuckled for the rest of Dylan's set.
I figured if this is how laid back it is here, then were gonna have a great time. I thought the 1st were ok, nothing really to right home about. Cool to hear some new stuff played for the 1st time, but the band didn't rock my world. Then there came night 4. Funny how one night can make it all worthwhile. Even funnier, how one song can have such an impact. I left the venue saying over & over "fuck, I can't believe they just played Blackbird". From the Iko Iko opener to the Brokedown Palace, it was on for the band. They really shined on all levels.
I loved that encore, but little did I know what was instore for me next year. Barbra Ann made the call.
