My first show and what a doosie it was. Glad to have it on DVD now since I don't remember too much of the performance ;)
Tremendous show! Dancin in the rain! Terrapin! Ahhhhh! We hit Niagra Falls after this show. Then on w/ the rest of summer tour!!!
Remember the psycho climbed on a vending trailer on the field during the show and was body slamming himself on it. wow.
When Bertha opened up I couldn't believe how hard everybody was rockin and singing along and just groovin. That moment was the beginning of a life-long love of the band. I was wearing a stupid "Grateful Fred" Flinstone t-shirt but I was 16 yrs old and thought it was really cool. Next came Greatest Story...Cold Rain...and all the way until the US Blues encore I was entranced.
I had the honor of driving all night from central NJ to the show. And the yahoos I was with wouldn't keep quiet in the hotel room so I could get some sleep. I still loved this show
This is the best version of "Not Fade Away" I saw. The tempo was a little slower than normal which made one think of the funky 70's version. Jerry and Brent trading licks looking at each other and laughing was great. AND it wasn't married to that OTHER song.
Even though I was at the show, and enjoyed it immensely, it wasn't until I saw the DVD of it that I realized what a stunning show it was. I always thought 7/7 was the better night, and I still think that is a great show. My wife, who is not a Deadhead, thinks this is the best version of Watchtower she has ever heard.
Somethings I remembered before seeing the DVD, like Jerry and Brent during NFA. Some I did not, like Brent taking a verse of Women R and Jerry loving every minute of it.
You always heard how Jerry did not like doing the stadium shows. Geez, he seemed to enjoy this one.
Always love when the band finished Playing in the Band after opening a previous show. Two days before opened in Ma. w/Paying and finished it here. Sometimes, not always in the mood for a "Playing" but when they did it like this.......fun. "There is nothing like a Greatful Dead concert."
Wave That Flag!!!!!!!!
I was right up front for the 10,000 Manics and first set of the show.
During the 10,000 Maniacs set Natalie Merchant stopped the show due to a girl right in front of me passing out / OD-ing. Natalie was very freaked out by this and left the stage for a moment while the girl was being helped / removed. It took Natalie a while to regain her composure to finish the first song after that.
What a wonderful 3 days south of Buffalo.
Abbott Road will never be the same.
