U.S. debut of "He's Gone". We named it "Duane's Song" after hearing the chorus and then having the Allman's come out and play. We thought it was a tribute to Duane! "Nine mile skid... he's gone," etc. Called it that for years after we knew better. Funny how that happens.
15-years-old, in a crowd of friends with my bewildered girlfriend in tow. Blistering sun, young women taking off their tops, exhausted hipsters with heads wrapped in wet towels. Some iconic moments: a spacy Other One, and endless Casey Jones, and of course the Allman Brothers jumping the stage. But even then, I could tell something wasn't quite right. The absence of Pigpen was huge, and the finale seemed more like repertory than psychedelic exploration. They were still the Dead, and well worth camping out overnight for, but there were some definite chinks in the armor.

Me and the steleto boys all got togeather for this incredible extravaganza koolaid started pooring hells angels asked us to take off our jackets they were burned quickly we had no clue !then the fun startedhot hot everthing riots were going on in hartford but you would never know it the wall of sound was wiggling all over the place jerry was in fine form allman bros. joined the maylay incredable sparks started flying ludes were distributed during oncor otherwise i dont beleve we would have ever landed begining of a wonderful long strange trip
