i have a pretty good memory of this show,i dont think it was raining.was the show with the rain dylan and the dead?i remember heat and firehoses too.i could be wrong,anybody know any different.....still lookin for a copy,one guy offered but i wasnt around for a while and i dont know if i answered correctly or soon enough.......

Trust me. Hot, muggy, overcast with sun at times --but if it rained at all, it was a passing drizzle, and I assure that there was no lightning or downpour.

Bought a floor ticket (no chairs down there --festival seating all the way), went in early, got up very near the front. Acres of space, blowing bubbles, making new acquaintances; a totally mellow scene, and then the promoter, John Scher, takes the stage mike, welcomes everyone and then helpfully reminds that "Duh only people dat belong on duh floah...ah duh people dat *paid* t'be deh..." --which of course was the cue for imbeciles in their thousands to leap over the wall and make an overcrowded and dangerous mess of the floor for the next five hours.

For most of it, I was in the shadow cast by the stage set (I think that was the gig at which Spike Lee filmed the Levi's commerical with the stage/lighting crew in action), but with everyone behind me roasting and pushing forward (and in most instances with no business being on the floor in the first place), guys on the stage hosed us down before the show and between sets. I was soaked and generally miserable, although the music was pretty good...but I also got sick for three weeks after returning home.

So many thanks to John Scher for, in a singular act of stupidity, taking a very good situation and making it needlessly and extremely unpleasant at best and, arguably, dangerous --@$$#%Le.

was great!!! The "Loser" stands out as well as a 2nd set Morning Dew.

I will never forget this show -- at least, the part I remember.

I had no tickets (surprise), but didn't think it would be a problem finding a couple at a stadium show (it wasn't). I road-tripped with my DAD (a very straight-laced, fatally unhip father at that) because he wanted to "meet me on my turf" during the summer before I went away to college (I was 17). I had my doubts about the bonding potential of him trespassing on my scene (and ensured there would be no "meeting of the minds" by dosing 3 drops of exquisite liquid as soon as we got to NJ), but, hey -- he was offering to pay, who was I to say no?

He wore a tie-die I made -- along with denim shorts (not cut-offs, mind you) and LL Bean shoes. 90% of the people we met in the lot while looking for tickets & hanging out were sure he was a narc (and I didn't blame them). He kept coming up to me and asking questions like "what are 'shrooms?'" -- which just made me giggle at that point.

I gotta give him credit, though -- he though NFA was cool, as he was a Buddy Holly fan back in the day, and he liked the "ashes, ashes" song, as he called it, for the same beat-related reasons. The glorious 2nd-set opener of Dew was completely lost on him, but he remarked that I seemed pleased by it (!)

As a father myself now, I gotta hand it to him for trying, even if 98% of the experience was lost on him. A fun day, all in all.

Very hot show indeed! This was back in the day they let you in with drinks...I recall a very large bottle of "lemonade" that didnt last long!

Whoever was up front roughly 3rd rowish in front of Jerry....I was there bumpin into you!!!

I was sprayed right in the face with the water hose!!!!

All I could think of was oh shit not my contacts dont take my eyesite man!! Luckily they stayed in and I had no problems!

However...when I went to Greensboro Sunday night I took a spare pair of contacts.....I was afraid I would start crying (tears of joyfulness) and I didnt want to miss anything!
