New Potato flows into Born Cross-Eyed so perfectly and the Spanish Jam is a beauty with Jerry trading licks with Pig! Then Jerry starts to force the band away from Caution and into Dark Star. Phil picks it up and they're both persistant enough to make the others follw suit. During this sadly cut Dark Star, it seems as though Jerry is trying to teach Pig the timing on that famous organ line. And when Pig plays it perfectly, but on the wrong beat - Jerry starts playing that way too! It totally messes with the groove and then...

Hey neddles, sorry to say, but the cut is what we get. I had recorded this one from the Deadhour years ago. David Gans comments at the end about the taping situation. All they have is Alligator coming in after the start then the mindblowing jam through the setlist with Dark Star cut right at the first chorus- sooo ouch! I love this peace of music. It got away from me (if you know what I mean- somebody's sticky fingers) a couple of years ago. I'd love to get it back. David Gans makes a classic comment at the end of the show, "This is a slightly over recorded piece of music, but perfection is not always possible with the Grateful Dead." And, yes, I believe this set is perfect in every sense. I wish I heard it live- not memorex.

Just checking down recent posts and see Eureka Auditorium, so am wondering -- Eureka, Northern California, and yes! To think that they played at the Carousel in the city on Jan. 17th, '68 and Eureka (from the Golden Gate up Hwy 101, thru the Redwood Empire) on the 20th. With Quicksilver! A lot of two lane, squeezing thru redwood trees, in January!
I read in here somewhere that Phil Lesh played with Bob Weir recently and they played the first two albums both nights. So another small gracing of the planet. "call it your own"
