This was a great show -- Quicksilver and the Airplane were also on the bill. The Dead closed with a totally ass-kicking set. UCSB was a hotbed of the revolution and this was one of the perfect moments of the period. I just remember being in a frenzy of joyous delirium.
And Santana and Mescaline
This was my first Dead show, and I was quite psyched, but I don't think they really got off that night. I remember PigPen being somewhat subdued, hanging out in the back for most of it. I am pretty darn sure the Airplane didn't play that night; I would've remembered that!
