and we had met a 50 ish year old woman at a mexican resturant that was a good 2 niles from the kaiser....she chatted us up and as she left said "check the backstage list...tonight ..and intimated she was a siste of a core 5 member.
so..i see bill and say" where is the pass list and he said IF YOU DONT KNOW your not on it! and so i said could u hook me and my 2 pals up? please.
And he got mad and said loudly. YOU are an ass for even asking you could flip out and kill someone!!!
after a 5 second freakout ...an old head said ...dont take it to heart. he has to fend off that question evry show for the last 30 years.
I did not care cause the kaiser was probably my favorite gen admission ever...I hate being squished and clausterphobic and the floor at most gen admission shows is like sardines...
the kaiser you could dance freely with tons of personal space till about 10 feet from the stage...
Kaiser was the winterland of the 80's. I must have seen 20 shows there. It was just the right size, not to big. This was a mardi gras party with floats, parade and all the fan fare. The band was on fire all 4 nights. I think they had come back from Hawaii where Jerry learned to scuba dive. It became a passion in his life and it showed in his music. There were so many cool people and the Joy was everywhere. I loved the Henry J Kaiser auditorium. It was like Home. I saw some of my favorite shows there and in 87 I got a tour of the sound system from Dan Healey and the Ultra sound team. That is another story though...
