I heard the show today on it - It was AMAZING

My first Dead show. Been a dead head ever since

Took Greg to this his first show, gave him a hit of pane and got seats in front row balcony. Energy pulsed like waves from band and crowd below. Greg became a "star" in first dead movie "last five". He was the head right in front of Jerry pressed against the stage with the "permanent smile". Couple years later backstage at Winterland, thanks to Boots, somebody asked who we were and Ramrod said Greg "got more face time than Jerry in the movie'.
My first Dead show was during this BCT run and all I really remember of the songs played was:
1) Casey Jones to close the first set - some large light fixture with a cursive "Grateful Dead" spelled out in light bulbs appeared during this song. I also thought this was the end of the show until told to stay for the second set.
2) El Paso (I seem to remember feeling lost and disinterested right before this recognizable cover - which turns out to be during Dark Star right before).
3) Sugar Magnolia (only because of the "breeze in the pines" lyric).
So I think this is the night I went to judging by the set list. I also remember that it was a week night.
I think Bobby had a pink blazer on?????
I only went to this show because I was at work when the tickets went on sale. I asked my mom to get 2 tickets to Yes on 8/5/72 which went on sale the same day. I guess everyone else was there for Dead tix and she probably accidently got the Dead tix then had to get the Yes tix afterward. The Yes show was a jaw dropper by the way.
I must not have read the tickets properly and got to the show about an hour late. We had first row balcony but had to be moved down to 8th row floor because of something called a "tapers section" in the balcony.
Although I really didn't get into the music, being mostly unfamiliar with their repertoire, that night I learned better right around 1974 and by that time the band was just about to go on hiatus. My second show was Snack Sunday.
I have never heard a tape of this BCT show and wonder what great sounds went totally over my head that night (especially the Dark Star).
I remember taking the bus to buy tickets at the local Ticketron outlet at Sears. I got second row center for three of these shows! The same guy was in front of me in the front row each night, and he was trying to tape the shows discreetly, so he traded seats with me. I remember dancing during China- Rider and being yelled at by Bill Graham to sit down. Then Healy invited me to hang out onstage.
