Alabama Shakes -- Alabama Shakes
I don't recall if I've raved about this band here before, but if I have, it bears repeating. I saw them open for Drive-By Truckers a few months back, and they were the best band-I'd-never-heard-anything-by-before-I-saw-them-live in a very, very long time. Brittany Howard was channelling a bit of Janis and a bit of Aretha and just impressed the ever-living crap out of me. The EP doesn't really do justice to their live performance (where have I heard THAT before?), but it does give a tantalizing taste. Their first full-length album due out in April, I think. But see them live in a club near you...
Gary Clark Jr -- Bright Lights EP
Big blues buzz about this guy, and in this case the EP (a couple of full-band scorchers and a couple of solo slower tunes, two studio, two live cuts) is just too much of a tease. Need more! Album also due this year.

As I wasn't aware that I was thinking at all at the time, I'm wondering what kind of thinking went into grabbing these three CDs yesterday for my car. Suddenly I've got all these El Caminos coming out of my ears...
