Browsing the GD store looking for gifts, I saw this:

My wife's a backyard birder, and I thought, hey, may as well take a look at it. For $125 (really?) I immediately passed on the idea of buying it...but the more I looked at photos, the more it looked more like a bird-injuring device than a feeder. Am I nuts, or do the bolt points look positively lethal?

It's not advertised as such, but maybe it's an attempt at a "squirrel proof" feeder...the mechanisim being, impale them if possible.

was in Hanoi a few months back, March.

hey be sure to get to Halong Bay.

do an overnight or 7 on one of the boats. most peaceful place I slept in years, out on the water. easy enough to stay in some fisherman's houseboat, as I did, just paid about 5$ per night and helped with the nets. as around in Halong city port area AWAY form the tourists.

also, enjoy the Biar Hoi in Hanoi... locally brewed beer sold in street shops by the glass direct out of the kegs, cheapest beer I had in years.

stay safe, and hey, you speak French, so sure you can communicate with the older folks.

It's really good to see you here! I just arrived in Hanoi, all night on the plane. Now enjoying a bowl of Pho Bo whle they get my room ready...you don't happen to be in the area do you?
