Great review - sounds like quite a night!
Thanks Bobby Ace for the review!
I enjoyed reading it.
I went from New York to Boston and back last night. Why? Because i got front row seat to a private benefit he did. And when I say front row, I mean front row; we were basically on the stage. I couldn't have been more than three feet from the man. I was pretty much sitting in his lap. I was there by special invitation from a couple I know (THANK YOU SALLY AND DOUG), who got my good friend Bryan and I right up in the heart of the action. Bryan's 30th b-day, incidentally.
The sound was incredible; we weren't hearing the PA, just the amps on the stage; it was like being in the band (we couldn't hear Bob's vocals so well because he doesn't have a vocal amp, just the ear-monitors). It's a completely different vibe: the sound is split; there's no two-sided mix, there's just Mark on the left, the the bass stack, drums, bob, Kenny and Jeff: you get the sound coming from where the musicians are. When someone does a fill or some sick line, you hear it straight from them.
They sounded fantastic; the set was Jam>Playin> TNK> Jus' Like Mama Said>Dark Star>Odessa>Dark Star, Fever@ (amazing), Peggy-O@, Silvio/Tequila>Aiko Aiko>Stuff>Sugaree>GDTRFB. E:Ripple
Dark star was very nice, Odessa rocked as usual. Fever is a favorite of mine, ever since Bob & Rob in the early 90s. Aiko was a barn-burner, Sugaree was fabulous, Mark was on fire, the dynamics were really tight.
They had a guest Alto Sax guy, a friend of Kenny's judging by how they were talking and laughing all night. The guy could play! His solo on Aiko was unbelieveable; Bob gave him a big grin afterwards. And Bob doesn't do much grinning.
The show was two full hours, which is a hell of a treat for a tiny benefit with 250 people. We actually missed the end of GDTR: Bryan looked at his watch and we realized that our bus left in 25 mins! We ran out, jumped in a cab and made it to the bus with 3 mins to spare
Who's going to Darien Lake on August 19th? As we all know, Bob loves the Buffalo area and we are ready for him!!
For those that don't know, Darien lake is a great amusement park as well as a terrific place to camp. I know we have A LOT of heads camping for the weekend.
You know they will play Truckin' for the locals. There are rumors of Phil making an appearance.
It's almost sold out, so get your tickets fast.
Sunshine Daydream all!!
