I have really gotten into the 1971-1974 Dead so many great shows with Keith.
When PigPen and Keith toured together they band sounded great.
My new fave show is the 72 Spectrum
37 minute Dark Star? Unbelievable
And the road goes on forever....

yeah, I was wondering if Pigpen was on that tour/show... I knew he was still alive, but not sure if he was playing. thanks for the clarification, hal.
There was a stint where Mickey, Pig, nor Donna were about - an interesting little time. When Pig returned that crucial blues element balanced everything and off they went. For me, this is as heart-of-gold as it got.

Pigpen was not at this show or this tour. A comment is made about how he is sick and in bed.
Though later there were shows with both of them. I think by this time Pigpen's role as keyboard player was minimal, but still did some vocal leads and harp.

Tennessee Jed, Jack Straw, Mexicali Blues, Comes A Time, One More Saturday Night and Ramble On Rose were all played for the first time at that shpw.

I have some old friends from Marin County, California that were friends with Keith. They told me Keith died in an automobile accident near Lagunitas, California on a curvy stretch of road now known as "Dead Man's Curve" because of all the accidents that have occurred there. According to my friends, Keith had played in a show with his band that he had with Steve Kimock earlier that day in Oakland. He was riding with another friend named Keith ( don't know last name) who was injured but was not killed.
