You have to buy all the releases to make sure you have everything. Part of staying a step ahead of the tapers who would disseminate things the band would not like. It's a trick of the Rhino-Industrial complex to keep us all 'In The Dark'.
Must buy all GD releases, Must buy all GD releases (secretly embedded in the matrixes)
Keep the vault index private and keep the posterity of the "mystery" strong. I don't want to know what's in the vault, it keeps the element of suprise alive.
Ken Kesey sums it up pretty well -
“The answer is never the answer. What's really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you'll always be seeking. I've never seen anybody really find the answer -- they think they have, so they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer.” - Ken Kesey
I'll second, third and umpteenth Anna rRxia's request for a vault index, and I'd add a request that a sound quality grade be given for what's there. Latvala and his successor Lemieux have most likely listened to just about everything, at least from the 60's and 70's, if not the 80's and 90's as well. But I don't think it is them that is preventing this info from getting out there.
just found another: http://www.archive.org/details/gd69-06-07.sbd.kaplan.9074.sbeok.shnf
Seems we went to this one, too, as I remember seeing them together several times

One link w/ Pigpen & Janis-Europhia Ballroom, San Rafael, Ca. & yes, I was lucky to be there-MAN was it fun.....:)))
There are two duets with Janice that I know of. 2 times Lovelight featuring Pig and Janice. 1968 and ??? oof 1970 (the show encyclopedia folks can help me out with more details, but I KNOW they exist, cuz had them downloaded to an older puter that died)

By trying we can easily learn to endure adversity -- another man's I mean.

for god's sake, throw us a friggin' bone!

I would release all the music Pigpen was involved in. There HAS to be a duet with Janis in there somewhere.

I like the index idea, and I like it even better if the entire vault were chronologically digitized and accessible to GD fans globally through this site, or another site. I know this is a sensitive area amongst the band (the "intellectual property" debate), however, there's money to be made, but most importantly, there's music to be shared with their fans (us) which continues to grow to younger generations. I just paid $10 for a soundboard quality '88 NYE show, and would do it over and over again if we could access the vault. Recalling Jerry's viewpoint on taping, etc: "Let 'em have it. Once we're done with it, it's there's."
