Maybe Rob wants to know his name for the same reason many victims of violent offenses have a "victim notifier" on file, so that these victims are informed when their attacker gets out of prison. There is something helpful about knowing, so the victims can have some control over that knowledge which can be helpful to those that have been victimized. Knowledge can be powerful and sometimes it is all that victim has.

I can't imagine being attacked from behind, in full public view, no one helps, and then wake up in the hospital with serious injuries, then realize the attacker took my ID and other personal items. Trauma like this often life altering, and the victim has to take intentional and sometimes very personal steps to become a survivor, and to make their way without having that incident color their everyday experiences. Or they can become stuck in the trauma, unable to move.

Rob doesn't mention taking physical revenge, he doesn't appear to be bottling up much since this happened, instead he is letting it all hang out in the open. Persons that are planning to do violence on someone generally don't go public in this fashion.

One thing I often see in our culture is this 'blame the victim' mentality. It is so heavily ingrained that rapists have even been let off for presenting the risque clothing that the victim wore in court, robbery victims criticized for the area of the town that they were in when they were robbed ("what were you doing there?"). As if the person is/was to blame for the actions of another. How often do we see persons consistently blame those on assistance for being lazy and not wanting to work, etc etc. This is an unfortunate fixture in our culture, where those groups that have been historically hobbled/abused are now blamed for their lack of advancement or progress. Then the majority culture is dismissive of those group's reaction/outrage to their abuse, and often those in power tell the abused how they SHOULD be feeling, thinking, reacting, etc.

The stuff about beating someone, gallows, gas chamber, etc does not reflect anything in Rob's posts. I don't know for sure what nerve this issue hits with you, but recognize that in Rob's shoes, maybe pursuing this person's identity is what he needs to do to (as you said) "get on with your life". He does't mention anything vaguely resembling vigilantism.

I don't disagree with your statement to Rob about getting help as often traumatized people need assistance with this. However the level of vitriol leveled at his reactions and your suppositions regarding Rob's violent intent continue to be confusing to me. Especially with the great degree of compassion, understanding, intelligence, and critical thinking that I have read in so many of your other posts, Gonzo.

I think that Rob is just trying his best to get some modicum of control over the present after a past life altering event. Maybe there is more to it, but having worked with many victims as well as perpetrators, it seems that his efforts have not been over the top. Rather Rob has done what is in his wheelhouse to accomplish, and despite his best efforts, this person who radically altered his trajectory is still out there. That is something that Rob has to live with, and he has to come to terms that he did all he could to rectify that situation and that individual continues to walk free. To possibly do this again. That reality can be hard to accept.

Another question-have you started a blog or are you using any other internet platform in your search? Somewhere that might have wider exposure than just here on deadnet? A page on FB? The more your information gets out, the more likely it is that this horrible perpetrator will be caught.

often when one is victimized, trying to find the culprit and make things right is a victim's only way to become a survivor of such an attrocity. And this happening at a show? A sad pairing of events, and hopefully all the wonderful prior show experiences can work to counter/outweigh the memories of this attack.

Nowadays I think of my sons attending shows and shudder at the idea that this individual maybe just behind them, in line, having some kind of problem and then jumping them. Not a thought I like to have.

Per prior post, if 'captain' indeed has PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), his continued use of Xanax is contraindicated. This medication is NOT to be used by persons with impulse control problems (i.e. aggression, suicidal thoughts, etc) and Xannax can act as a disinhibitor and actually reduce ones inhibition's regarding actting out violently. captain needs to turn himself in and seek help before he kills someone. He could have killed you that day.

Your quest is a noble one, legendary rob. I wish you well with it and admire your tenacity. Whether 'captain' is found or not, your actions have at least informed the the community of a dangerous individual whom we should all be wary of. And we should all do our part if we can be of assistance.

With the stated list of 'captain's' problems, his potential for continued violence is significant, and those who are harboring him are most likely to be at risk to be his next victims. As his anger and paranoia increases, so will his use of the Xannax (and other substances), and with his ongoing efforts to avoid the law/consequences, he will then begin to view those around him as a threat. Hatter will continue to do what a battered partner does, make excuses, downplay the seriousness or lethality of the violence, and participate in some level of self-blame. Rarely do battered partners blame the perpetrator (without some kind of help).

Your path is a righteous one. And even if you are not able to make sure that captain faces justice, at least we have all been informed of the potential for such problems. And as horrible as this is, I have to consider such things next time I am at a show with my family. Not that I want that in my mind, but I can't deny reality.
