November 5 - November 11, 2012

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1973, and a double dose of 1979.
Our first stop is on 10/30/73 in St. Louis, the second night of a two night run. From this fine show, we have the big second set jam featuring Dark Star plus three tracks from the brand-new (released 10/15/73) Wake Of The Flood album: Dark Star>Mind Left Body Jam>Stella Blues>Eyes of the World>Weather Report Suite.
Next is music from 11/25/79 at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion, where we have the end of the second set, featuring Truckin'>Stella Blue>Good Lovin'; Johnny B. Goode.
Lastly this week is music from 12/4/79 in Chicago, the middle night of a three night run, where we have the end of the first set: New Minglewood Blues, Stagger Lee, Passenger, Deal.
Be sure to join us next week for more tunes from the vault.

Someone needs to post this Taper's section on the main landing page of dead.net Glad I stumbled onto this Fall 73. This Dark Star has transported me to a really nice place. I am staring out the window of a dark grey snowy/rainy New York city sky & this music adds an unexplainable beauty to it all.
I'd have to lump GD72, GD73, and GD74 together. It's a triptych. They can't be separated.
In my opinion, of course.
Shows why 73 was a stellar year for the Grateful Dead and makes it a candidate for possibly the best year ever. This example of a huge second set jam shows it was a great time to hang out and hang on to somebody to love while the roses seemed to flow non-stop.
Thanks DL for spot-lighting his one.

"Unexplainable Beauty" I love that phrase as a descriptor of top-notch Grateful Dead music!
