Grateful Dead
December 20 - December 26, 2010

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, and Merry Christmas to those celebrating the day. This week we have music spanning 12 years of Grateful Dead, filled with holiday cheer!
Our first selection is from 2/11/70 at the Fillmore East in New York, the first show of a three night run that featured two much more famous shows than this (2/13&14/70). But, 2/11/70 had some stellar playing as well, including this sequence of Dark Star>Spanish Jam>Lovelight filled with special guests.
Next up is music from a very rare appearance of an audience tape here at the Tapers' Section, with music from 1/31/78 in Chicago. The board tapes of this show do exist in the vault and sound excellent, but we also enjoy a good audience tape here, so here is a good first set ending sequence of Candyman, Minglewood, TLEO, Let It Grow.
Lastly this week is music from 2/19/82 in San Diego. If you missed it last week, go back to the Tapers' Section archive here on dead.net and check out the post-Drums sequence from this show. Here is the pre-Drums sequence (including the last song of the first set): Minglewood Blues, Alabama Getaway>Promised Land, Ship of Fools, Lost Sailor>Saint of Circumstance.
Be sure to check in next week for more great tunes from the vault here at the Tapers' Section as we roll into 2011.

On my pc the last segment of the third selection has a brief period of 'Drums' after the end of 'Saint' and then about 15 minutes of silence.
If that is the case rather than some defect of my downloading/streaming ,why not edit the selection before posting it ?

Are there any other recordings of 2/11/70 show around to patch the missing segments from the soundboard master?
Anything with Gregg & Duane Allman plus Peter Green is welcome. This one screams "release me". Personally, I like this show better than 2/13 and 2/14 1970. Not to take away from those, but this is easily in the top 5 most significant runs the Grateful Dead ever played.
That is an unusually bluesy sounding Dark Star! Many thanks for the gifts of music. Peace to all.

Thanks David, for another year of supplying us all with Monday morning cheer! Any show with "Fillmore" in the title is special, but Feb. '70 was magical. Sounds like it might a Mazner audience tape from the Uptown. Anyhow may everyone "out there" travel through that transitive nightfall of diamonds and let it shine this holiday.

...it's amazing the audience remained so silent!
