Between 1967 and 1970, the Grateful Dead recorded five studio albums for Warner Bros. Records that formed the psychedelic canon on which the band’s live legend was built.
Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty with THE WARNER BROS. STUDIO ALBUMS, a five-LP boxed set. The collection contains The Grateful Dead (1967),Workingman’s Dead, the original mix of Aoxomoxoa (1969), and American Beauty (1970), plus the original mix for Anthem Of The Sun (1968), available on vinyl for the first time in nearly 40 years.
The set also offers detailed replicas of the original albums housed in a hard-shell case that protects and stores the music with the accompanying 12" x 12" book including unpublished photos and new liner notes by Blair Jackson. To ensure the highest degree of quality, the albums were pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI using lacquers cut from the original analog masters by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering.

I just received Anthem of the Sun and Aoxomoxoa and I'm a bit disappointed.
I question something about the sound. Either the quality of the remastering or the quality of the cut or the pressing? The midrange is muffled, the low end is muddy, and the sizzle has been adios'd throughout much of this record. For example, the explosive/rockin' parts in the The Other One are squashed and consequently and ridiculously quieter than the "quieter parts". Or Jerry's vocal on Mts of the Moon sounds like someone put a paper sack over it, and it's sits sadly in the mix. Some of the songs sound good but there just seems to be something wrong with how its all sitting together...smooshed and smeared. I'd be happy to give more specific examples if anyone's interested. FYI, I play and record music. I'm a tone chaser. A tube swapper. I prefer some things in mono. And my listening preference is vinyl. Just thought I should validate myself. Doesn't mean this is more than a personal opinion, but I just cannot imagine that this is the sound intended, or the sound of either the original master. For a reference, I went on youtube and listened to some substandard streaming mp3's of these records, and...it makes me a little sick even typing this, but they sounded better. Well it didn't sound better, but it didn't sound muffled. The vocals didn't sound so buried. The punch and dynamic range seemed right. The low end was tighter. More air. Just to make sure something wasn't wrong with my gear or my ears I put on some other records (back to talking about vinyl again : ). Nope. Everything else that I put on sounded better and more dynamic.
Did anyone in the Dead camp approve these? Did some compression or limiting happen in the remastering process? Did they make a test pressing and listen carefully/thoughtfully? Doesn't seem like it. I sure did want to love these.

Came yesterday, what a beauty, love the packaging, love the new liner notes, love it all. Sounds wonderful, can't say enough good about this order. Just lovely. Listened to the first lp, now, if I can just find some time to listen to the rest. Can't wait to hear the original mixes.

Got it, had a listening party last night with my girl and two bottles of good wine, all five records, sounds A-mazing!!
Man, I'm really bumming on this one, I ordered this vinyl collection, with a couple of other things, last thursday (9-21). Got a confirmation email saying it was shipped, so far so good, then, there was no tracking number where there should have been, can't track it, so, it has not arrived, should I be worried? I an waiting with great expectations and don't want to be negative but where is it? Credit card all ready charged, where can I get a tracking number? when will it be delivered? it sure shouldn't take this long, should it? Another point, wasn't the live/dead lp a warner release also? too bad it wasn't included with this package. I have the rhino vinyl of working man's and american beauty, but the live dead was sold out, I agree with previous post, this one needs rereleased on vinyl too, please. Thanks and am looking forward to hearing these original mixes and getting my package, can anyone check on it for me and let me know where it is. Thanks in advance for any and all help/info.

However, I decided to go with Amazon. I know I miss out on the the 45 and the promo poster but it cost me sixty Australian dollars less than it would have from here. I figured a 45 and poster weren't worth sixty bucks.
Saying that, I support the product and would always prefer to order from here but I think the postage costs are a bit unfair sometimes. Overseas customers shouldn't have to pay inflated postage costs so that US customers can get free postage.
Anyway, how about restocking the store with the Live/Dead double LP?
