What happens when you take the spirit of Dick's Picks and combine it with the very best aspects of Road Trips? Dave's Picks! Esteemed archivist, vaultmeister, and all-around Dead fiend David Lemieux will curate the finest unreleased shows from the master tapes, brought to life with HDCD sonics by Jeffrey Norman, period photos, and informative liner notes. All four CD releases in 2012 will be limited to 12,000 individually numbered copies and each will come in a digipak printed on Orford stock. The entire packaging, including the trays, will be made of 100% recycled and PCW materials.
The series kicks off with a uniquely spectacular show from the highly regarded Spring Tour of '77 - May 25, 1977, The Mosque in Richmond, Virginia. You can learn more about this show here.
Dave's Picks Volume 2 will feature a complete Grateful Dead performance from the Wall of Sound tour, recorded live on 7/31/74 at Dillon Stadium in Hartford, CT. This was one of the final East Coast appearances by the Grateful Dead for almost two years, and is one of the longest, most exceptionally well-played shows of the entire year. The big jams stand out, of course, including "Weather Report Suite," "Eyes Of The World>China Doll" and "Truckin>several thematic jams," but the smaller songs, including a rare show-opening "Scarlet Begonias," "Mississippi Half-Step," "Big River," "Greatest Story Ever Told," "Uncle John's Band" and countless others are also excellent at this A+ show.
NEW INFO: In addition to all the great music, you can look forward to another digipak with trays made of 100% recycled and PCW materials (and of course a booklet featuring a historical essay and photos). Due to popular demand, we'll be using a heavier paper stock for Volume 2 and all the great Dave's Picks releases to come.

I hear what you're saying marye, but I'm also seeing what I'm seeing. I've got my comment viewing options set to 300 comments per page, so I can see the first 300 posts on one page, but on post 301, the posts numbers begin again, meaning that my post above is numbered 8, not 308, yours is numbered 9, not 309, etc. I don't know if I'm making this clear, but there seems to be a glitch in the post numbering system that the site engineers should probably know about.
I think it's because the movie Star Wars debuted in theatres on 5.25.77. Pretty sure that is the case.
Maybe the new Dave's Picks graphics are because the Grateful Dead is out of this world. Like it's the music of the Universe- Either that or Han Solo is a huge Dark Star fan
I realize it's not appropriate to count the high majority of bonus discs as discrete archival releases, but some absolutely were just that. Bonus discs that shipped with Rockin' the Rhein orders from GDM, to cite one example, was an amazing set of tracks from the Academy of Music shows in Mar-72. There were others of similar quality and value, i think. Now don't you wish you ordered Skeletons From The Closet from Rhino?

What happened to all of the posts that were here before? (It looks like there's only 8 of them now.)
It depends on what you count and when you start counting. For archival releases, I'd say it's been pretty much everything since One From The Vault in 1991. The two releases prior to that would have been Without A Net and Infrared Roses, documenting recent tours.
I counted 73 Grateful Dead (no Garcia, Weir, Lesh, Other Ones, The Dead, etc) releases comprising archival live and studio recordings -- 60 physical and 13 download from 1991-2005. Fillmore West 1969 box set and compilation is one release, and I also included So Many Roads, Birth of the Dead, and Rare Cuts & Oddities, but not The Golden Road or Beyond Description reissues.
Then from 2007-2011 (no releases in 2006), I counted 26 distinct releases. All of Europe 72 including Vol 2 is a single "release" to me, which would be #98. #99 is RT 4.5. That would make Daves Picks Vol. 1 #100.
However, I did not count the 2 Road Trips downloads. Those are a bit different than the comp releases for FW69 and E72, so if you want to count 'em then E72 would be #100... And now I realize I forgot Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions.
Like I said, it depends on how you count. :)
After the recent meeting of the Archival Committee, there was a motion to invert the numbering of certain releases, so that the Europe 72 Box Set is the 100th Release. The Chair did second that emotion, and the proposal is now Grateful Law.
Locations
from what I can tell, each page's posts are numbered starting at 1, so if you have 50 per page, yes, the first post on that page is 1 and the last is 50, whereas if you have 300 per page, the last is 300. in short, no, they are not indexed from the beginning of the topic, they're indexed by the page, however you define the page.
