Thank you for playing 30 Days of Dead. The answer to this day's contest is:
Oklahoma City, OK, Oklahoma City Music Hall
11/15/1972
This 30+ minute version of Playing In The Band is one of the best versions of this song from 1972, a year that featured remarkably strong versions virtually every night. In a rare move, this Playing In The Band was the second set’s big jam. No Dark Star or Other One; rather, this Playing acted as the jam vehicle for the night, and certainly holds up as a major player of the second set jam canon. There is a cut in the master reel on this version, but that’s to be expected when a song runs longer than 30 minutes.
Today's winner is: Kevin F. from Jacksonville Beach, FL

...Daybreak on the band.
Better late than never or better fate than ever. I applaud your upfront appreciation of the most hated member of the Dead. I have been known to do that and take heat for it (under my main nom de net, thewaymouth).
DJ must be my favorite female singer of all time, considering she's part of the artist closest to my head-&-heart. Cheers!
(Oh my this version of my favorite Dead song of all time is so sick, it gives me extra chest fever and chills that thrill.)
..too close to New Orleans.
I'll take a shot at Houston from Nov. 1972. No research done here, just a guess.
Yes, if you listen closely at the beginning, Keith plays around with his piano wah-wah pedal on a couple of notes. He only used that for a very short period of time. Also, I hear Alligator being played through a wah pedal.
Hahahaha! There are no comments here because everyone is waiting on Archive to come back!
For anyone who played yesterday: Was the venue called just "The Omni" or was it "Omni Coliseum" as Dead.net now has it? Both the Archive and Setlist.org have 04-02-1990 as being at "The Omni" only. In the drop list of cities and venues, both "The Omni" and "Omni Coliseum" were listed, but I chose Omni only because of the Archive/Setlist. Were they wrong???
P.S. Awesome Playin' jam. Bobby is way up front in the mix!
I chose The Omni, to match what the Archive had - didn't matter, I couldn't get my vote in for the third straight day - hopefully, today will be better ;)
...waiting for the archive...
in the crazy box, oh boy!
only 587 shows to chose from
well not really
playin in the haystack
oh- and new rule- the remaining songs must all be at least 30 min jams-thank you
A thirty-one minute Playin'??
Heck yeah!!!!
Thanks a s-ton.
