Can't register my guess...

For the second day, the site is not taking my guess - I like this fleece with the STF logo, and would like to be entered in the drawing for it...

I'll keep trying, but it's getting tedious...

Awesome Scarlet>Fire - I saw the show in Rochester a few nights later with the killer Sugaree :)

thanks - Zeb

I know it's probably way too late for requests...

... but I think the monstrous Sugaree from the Stanley Theatre in Pittsburgh in '79 would have been perfect for 30 Days of the Dead. Always been my favorite. Hmmmm, maybe David can bookmark it for next year!?? I'll keep my fingers crossed. Come to think of it, the whole show would be a great pick for release (hint hint), with the very fun He's Gone>Gloria Jam>CC Rider in the second set. Thanks for all the gems!

It's 4:44 and I was supposed to have listened to the song, did the dishes, took my bath and pills and gone to sleep. Too involved in this. A few listens should do it. later, after I've been to bed.
Just wanted to say hey.

Keyboards key

I enjoy trying to figure these out without clues first and it's amazing how important the keyboard sound is to narrowing things down to a year or two, sometimes less. Really nice version of this classic combo. The band always seemed to turn it in on at this venue. Wish I had seen a show there. The archive has a sweet Charlie Miller soundboard of this show that I now plan to listen to in its entirety. One of the great things about this little game is that I get to discover new shows.

Have a good one all.

Clues ...

Well I would give a clue but cryptic but free could not have made it any easier ... I went the AZ clue route when the other would have been quicker. A fun listen ... short and sweet!

.. it's all relative

.. Again each individual knows by now there may be “spoilers” and free choice allows each of us to read or not to read the comments at any point in our search or not at all..

Black Friday Record Store Day

Did anyone else snag a copy of the vinyl pressing of Europe '72 Vol. 2 today? 4 180-gram records with a bonus track, "Big Railroad Blues". Pretty pricey at $69.99 but my record store was selling everything for 20% off thanks to Black Friday!

You don't need clues

Just a good ear. Like Passenger last week, it's all about the keyboards. Then don't forget your matches and you've got it.

Simply beautiful. The transition between scarlet and fire deserved a name.

Easy Answers

I got this one on the first listen (see the subject) and the venue made me think of this line:

Shut your eyes and listen to the colours of your mind.

The vocal flub at about 1:42 makes this one to identify when comparing to online sources. This one sounds great, too.

Gonna fly now

the > transition in this is top notch. Superb playing from Bill/Mickey. Not too hard to pinpoint the era on this one, if you listen to the instruments.

Scarlet>Fire

I happened to make a comment to my wife about this Scarlet-Fire before going out early this morning as to the location of it. When I got back, she said "Your hunch was right". I was at this show and it was hot! The band loved that place and they were ever so loved in return. Garcia had a way of bouncing notes off the rafters in that venue for sure. It would be great to see released as a "Dave's Picks"!

Never ending tour '78-'86

The Dead took a very short break after this show, then plowed right back in to change things up a bit. I love looking at the tour dates from this era. They go right down the years, almost every month, one after the other. What a band. Incredible work effort and creative output.

Extraordinary entertainment run in town that year--what better to kick it off than a short, but smokin' Scarlet/Fire?

Another one bites the dust

I wonder how many venues the band played in have been closed or demolished. Seems to be quite an array of them.

In addition to this venue, I'm going to miss the morning ritual I have developed this month. It's been so nice to wake up to a new tune every day. Just fantastic fun. Like Christmas every day!
