Within the first minute

Again, I can name that venue and date within a minute of the song playing. I've needed to listen to about 10 versions, so far. But, because the Dead were so unique, we can generally nail the day and venue within 30 seconds of a song. I love this game, just need to hear the intro's and keys (for decade), vocals (for era) and then we're off to the races.
They weren't the best at what they did, but they were the only one's doing what they did.
Full points to the band and the team working behind the scenes!
Wouldn't miss a day of 30 days of Dead!

Thanks!

Thank you drumma - your clue sealed the deal! I was on my way to bed (eastern time zone) but decided to scan for clues one more time. I think I may have listened to the first 5 minutes of every WRS from 1973 today - not a bad way to spend some time relaxing on Thanksgiving.

Thank you David for the great selections and thank you fellow Heads for providing enjoyable reading to go along with the free songs!

I fixed my seat

Happy Thanksgiving! Okay, a little late....

Today was fun and I didn't read the comments or clues until after making my guess. I'm not sure I found the right date/venue today but I enjoyed listening to a bunch of really good AUD, SBD and Matrix shows anyway and I got my head throughly 'en suite' as it were before pushing the big red button.

After that I went out to the garage, put on RT 4.5 and got back to work restoring an old seat, then it was time for dinner and the tryptophan took over. :)

About half way through the repair, the shorter '76 version of "Let It Grow" came on and I discovered that I preferred today's song with the full 'WRS'.

Thanks for clues ...

I found aquanee's most helpful. I love getting that phasing from finding the right one and synching it up ... as well as the one that mentioned 2 great show's from the same STATE, not venue in the particular year. Thanks again!

Hardest one yet for me,

but I got it. I thought my win streak was up, but I still refused to look at the comments for clues and thru due diligence, nothin but net. One thing I'll say is the prelude in this version is definitely one of the best, so clean. And this devil will say that until he's blue in the face. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Dave, thanks for selecting the choice material and the game, I'm going to be bummed when this is done.

Well I'm Overwhelmed

Seems like I just don't have enough Weather Reports in my head to compare. And even less in my personal collection, and it's not one of those.

If not for the kindness of others, It would have been hours of trial and error.

How sweetly tedious!

Thanks of the clue aquanee

HAPPY THANKSGIV'IN!

and thanks for the giving Dead.net!

Love to all

clueless

I agree. Some of today's clues are good, some not so much. There is one show out there that seems like it's the one, but I'm pretty sure it's not. I listened to at least 30 before I found what I think is the one. For me it was the very beginning and the very end that made the difference, and it wasn't difference in tape speed, but a subtle tonal difference that made it a challenge.

break it down

What I did for this was to break the suite down into the three parts, focusing on the beginning of the Prelude (when does the keyboard become prominent), the length of each section, and the transition from Part 1 > Let It Grow. Not all transitions have Bobby's 1-2-3-4 count in there. A certain part this year is easily ruled out by presence (or absence) of guest performers.

My clue/trivia is that among 4 consecutive performances this show hasn't had any portion officially released.

I could be wrong..

.. but I disagree with some of the clues I have seen.

I would look indoors and I would think an appropriate song they could have played, but didn't, would have been FOTD.

Many things to be thankful for

I, too, am grateful for all the wonderful music over these many years. It's been fun getting the downloads this month, and I'll miss them when they're gone. Some people might say it's cheesy to offer WRS right after LIG, but the sound is so different and like others have said the full suite is a nice song for the day. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

P.S. There is a small hint in there if you need it.

EDIT: Went back to listen some more and realized I missed this one. The sound was close in many parts, but (importantly) not at the end. I was way too far north. Still, good fun.

Good Ear Candy

Streaming two different versions of the same show simultaneously can be one of the most psychedelic listening experiences (outside of an actual show) a person can have, especially when one recording is a little slower than the other. The echo effect I got on yesterday's "Let It Grow," with some hall reverberation sounds in the echo portion, felt like being right there as it was happening, feeling every ripping note of Jer's solos. Whoa!

Listen to how many versions each day?

What is your average # of "listens" to score a hit? 5? 10? 25?
I don't listen to ANY except today's selection. There are always a few kind heads who want to help out others. Some times they are people who don't even know the correct answer, or how to give a clue.

Today, based on the first three or four posts, the answer was there.

For me

if I don't know it right off hand, the fun is in listening to the versions in the era (I average getting it to about a 6 month range). Sometimes it takes me around 5 or so show listens, and sometimes, if I'm lucky, more! And me being one those guys that refuses to look at the comments until I know for sure that I've got it, I can tell you that out of all the comments I just read, it seemed like one user got it right. All the others are either wrong/misleading.

Absolutely beautiful WRS...

I guess the time has come to unveil the album artwork I've been working on for this year's 30 Days of Dead. As you can see, it's not finished as some of the songs have not been released yet, but this is what I've come up with so far.

All suggestions, comments, ect are amazing. Feel free to give your two cents.

Here's the link to the artwork:

bumber crop?

(That's not a clue, btw. Just find it odd) I was at Disneyland all day yesterday, so i didn't get into Let It Grow. I guess today was a good make-up for me ;)
This one's pretty easy, once you've found it. It amazes me how different these songs always are. I listened to mabye 15 or 20, and once I found this one, i knew it instantly. pretty cool. I was only a few weeks old, and these devils were on fire. smokin show!
had to go back and listen to yesterday's. 70's Dead is GREAT and all, but... HO-LY CRAP!!!!!

In fact, both shows during this one year were legendary at this particular venue.

Let It Grow. Kinda odd... They gave us two last year too. I suppose it IS a good Thanksgiving theme song!

Anyway, along that line: Giving Thanks to the greatest, most generous rock'n'roll band of all time!

Nice curve ball!

Expecting something different, I found something very similar to yesterday's -- the COMPLETE Weather Report :)

My hint, being arguably either the first or one of the first to see/download/guess: it is performed in the first year of Weather Report's existence.

Perfection!

A perfect complement to yesterday's wonderful Let It Grow, as well as to compliment the spirit of today - KUDOS! I am grateful, as are many, many more - thank you. Seems like a good day to open up the 2001 Garcia label Cabernet.

Gettin close to the end...

...might there be a West L.A. Fadeaway in the mix?

I begged for one in the last 30 Days and that didn't seem to work - so this time, I'll only ask once!!

Please?!?!
